The electrical impulses generate neuromuscular contraction.
Magnesium is required for the production and transfer of energy from protein synthesis for contractility of muscle and excitability of nerves. It is a co-factor in a myriad of enzyme systems and there are over 300 enzymes that require magnesium as a cofactor including in glutathione synthesis which is involved in liver detoxification, protein synthesis, neurotransmitter and hormone synthesis and B6 metabolism.
